Island Beach Resort

Situated within the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park, our tropical island resort nestles in 5 acres, surrounded by jungle, on the north east of Pulau Sibu, Johor, and features a lovely shady garden and 350 metres of soft golden sand, which extends out to sea making swimming both safe and comfortable. Our 28 rooms are authentically constructed by us using traditional methods and materials, wood and palm frond (atap), creating simple, clean, comfort that affords the ‘back to nature’ feel of Sea Gypsy Village. Striving to be eco-friendly and worrying about our carbon foot print we have an active recycling program, collect rainwater for watering plants, use grey water for cisterns, have a worm compost for bio-degradable nappies and generally promote resource awareness. We endeavour to live in harmony with nature and give her a helping hand with tree planting programs and building our own artificial reef.

Lounge Bar

Our lounge bar is virtually on the beach and is the perfect place for you to relax during the day in the company of friends or a good book and is the main meeting point in the evening for a sundowner cocktail or two whilst watching the moon rise over the sea. Boasting a fully stocked bar, and a surprising choice of wines, our mixologists are as adept at making classic milk shakes as they are at serving a great cocktail. If you have forgotten to pack something, we offer sun lotions, essential toiletries and medical supplies. Personalised postcards made from your memory card and then posted by our mainland office are the perfect way to show friends and family that you’re currently enjoying a tropical island experience and digital detox!

Beach Bar

Literally on the beach under the stars, music & fire is the main theme when we open the beach bar for the ultimate island holiday experience. Feel the sand between your toes and hear the waves lapping on the beach whilst chatting and making new friends. The fire show is a regular feature and one not to be missed.

The beach side restaurant offers open air dining with a cuisine that is a mix of Malay, Indian, Chinese and Western, mirroring the history and culture of our unique country. All our food is cooked from scratch using locally sourced fresh ingredients, consequently it is easy for us to cater for any type of dietary requirements (you will be asked about dietary requirements when booking). We also offer 3 baby menus and cook baby food fresh to order any time of day. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style, children’s tea is served at 6pm as part of our Kids Club, and dinner at 8pm is candlelit table service. If you feel peckish during the day, we offer an all day menu and afternoon tea is served from 3pm to 5pm daily, featuring home baked cakes, including a delicious gluten free carrot cake, a light moist vegan chocolate island bounty muffin and traditional English scones with jam & cream.

Dive Centre

Dan’s Nasty Frogmen Dive Base, an accredited PADI dive centre, co-ordinate all the daily activities taking place around the resort and post it all on the Activity Boards in the restaurant. You can sign up to snorkel the waters of a remote tropical island or qualified divers can dive to their hearts content on the beautiful soft coral reefs just a short boat ride away. Learn to scuba dive or just try a “Discover Scuba Dive” on our stunning artificial reef right off the beach. Jungle Trek to the highest heights and waterfalls or explore the unique mangroves on Sibu, we have excursions suitable for all ages and abilities. You can hire sail boats, paddle boards, single or double kayaks and boogie boards for fun in the waves. For the ultimate sundowner experience join the sunset island trip, sip your favourite tipple whilst enjoying the sun sinking into the sea.

Kids

We offer a supervised Kids Club with a difference as it starts at 6pm with Children’s Tea, to feed appetites made healthy with lots of fresh air, followed by an hour of out door games we like to call “Let Off Steam” and continues with board games, reading and a movie in our Kids Lounge, finishing at 9.30pm. Parents can enjoy a guilt free cocktail and dinner in our romantic setting!

During the day our Nasty Kids Coordinators offer a host of kid’s activities and arts & crafts from tee shirt painting to sand castle competitions. Plus our own Tadpole certification which teaches kids water sports. Or there’s our shady garden, play ground and safe sandy beach for some good old fashioned play.

FAQ's

Your very own road transport to the jetty, we pick up from any address in Johor Bahru and take you direct to the jetty to catch the speed boat to the island.

Driving to Tanjong Leman is easy. The roads from Johor Bahru have been improved tremendously with over passes at busy intersections and a dual carriageway for most of the route now. We recommend using the Causeway now the Eastern Dispersal Link road is open the new highway bypasses downtown Johor Bahru.

We operate two licensed 32foot, twin engine boats with Canopies

All of our boat drivers hold current Speed Boat licences issued by the Marine Dept of Malaysian Government.

Custom made life jackets made to Government safety standards in 6 sizes from baby to extra large are provided.

The crossing from Tanjong Leman to Pulau Sibu takes approximately 20 minutes.

Note: It is important to understand that our boats only run when we have guests arriving or departing, it is not a ferry service. you must pre-book your boat time when making a booking.

Driving Yourself:

  • Secure parking at the Jetty costs RM8 per day.
  • There is a security barrier at the entrance to the car park where you will get your parking ticket, if it has been left open just drive straight in.
  • Drive straight to the main complex area and park your car.
  • Payment for parking is made when you leave, if you do not have a ticket the attendant will ask you how many days you have parked your car for.

As you enter the complex there is a window on your right to pay the fees for entering the marine park this is a total of RM35 for adults and RM20 for children.

The toilet is located at the back of the complex on the right and costs 30 cents (without paper)

Our boat drivers will be there looking for you, in Sea Gypsy tee shirts.

If the boat is not there please have a cup of tea, but if its more than 10 minutes late please call +6019 710 4119

Do not touch any of the cats there, if your children do, wash hands immediately!

Situated on the beach Dan’s Dive is the perfect place to sip a cocktail and unwind whilst watching the moonrise over the sea. We stock everything you could want on your tropical island holiday such as ice creams, snacks, a huge selection of cocktails, beers, wines and fresh fruit juices. The bar remains open as long as guests are still ordering drinks.

In the shop we stock various sun lotions and potions, essential toiletries and medical supplies, create your own personalised post cards and resort gear. If you have left something behind, we have you covered!

Coffee lovers are going to be thrilled with our all singing all dancing Jura coffee machine. The aroma of freshly ground coffee beans wafting through the resort is divine. We have pretty much EVERYTHING mums and dads could want for their children, from toilet training seats to beach games and toys, not to mention our FREE supervised kids lounge from 7:30pm – 9 : 30pm meaning mums and dads can have a peaceful evening safe in the knowledge the kids are being looked after and happy

Kids Bar – Daily from 10am to Bedtime

Dan's Dive, our lounge bar, is not open to children under the age of 13 years after 7pm so they now have their own bar for getting drinks and ice cream (with adult permission of course) but its actually open all day.

We also stock a great variety of drinks for children from juice boxes to chocolate bio rice drink boxes to delicious milk shakes.

We have highchairs, baby baths, hooded baby towels, cots with mosquito nets and provide 3 menus for babies that are prepared fresh in our Halal kitchen at any time required. Parents should liaise with the restaurant staff for full information. We can sterilise bottles, provide access to a microwave, hot water for baths - which will be brought to your room. We have baby monitors available on request from the island office.

We encourage the use of BIODEGRADABLE NAPPIES ONLY

Richard and the team have made a Vermi-compost palace for our worms to munch through the waste and produce lovely rich compost and fertiliser for us to use in the garden and they do this in as little as 8 weeks!

Biodegradable nappies are available at Sea Gypsy Village at our cost price (this is not about making money, its about our environment)

We are unable to dispose of nonbiodegradable nappies and parents bringing them will be asked to take them away when they leave the resort.

Packages are inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner however if you do get hungry during the day, we offer an all day menu of Western and Asian classics for you to choose from to keep you going.

A large range of teas and freshly home baked muffins, cakes and brownies are offered at 4pm for afternoon tea (or any time of the day if you feel like it, just ask the font of house staff)

We have resort polo shirts, tee shirts, singlets and caps and hats available for purchase, also mask & snorkel sets and fins which we import from Australia. For the ultimate postcard we can print photos you’ve taken using bluetooth, a truly personal card to send to family & friends. Just take your phone to the office for printing.
