Halloween & Easter

Richard & Jade Wills both came to Sibu Island at the age of 6 weeks. They grew up bare foot running through the jungle, along the beach and across the coral. They frequently gave their mother near heart attacks with their antics as I'd hear a small voice and realise they were 20 feet above me somewhere!
They are still both completely insane in their mother's eyes but I have learned to simply let them get on with it. No surprise then when I found these photos on my camera after the Easter school hols (readers of these pages will realise they are both now at boarding school in Perth, WA.). Obviously a climbing expedition with a camera in tow and how lucky am I because what an amazing photo of our beach -:)
And to prove they haven't developed city feet, despite their sojourn in the real world, we have proof that climbing coral in bare feet is still no problem. Please do not try this at home, to us lesser mortals it hurts like heck!

Halloween Fun

Despite my absence Halloween was tremendous fun as always (simply confirming my suspicion that I am completely superfluous to requirements despite my conviction I'm irreplaceable!). There was Jack-o-lantern making, Dressing Up, Decorations, Halloween Games & LOTS of yummy Halloween goodies including our (in)famous Bat Dropping Cookies.

Bat cups, a must for collecting Halloween goodies

Fantastic Jack O Lanterns

Yummy, Bat Dropping Cookies Blood, blood and then some more blood!

Hope you can join us for our next Halloween Celebration...if you dare...
My Latest Favourite Thing!
Have you Google Earthed? I was sent a link what seems like years ago and was impressed at the satellite shot of Pulau Sibu but didn't think too much about where it came from. However chatting to my son Richard the other day he told me I should download Google Earth and having my lap top handy I did it immediately. All I can say is "how cool is that???"  I now have my father-in-law glued to the screen searching for all the homes he's ever had, places he's visited and enjoyed and loving every minute of it. Such fun and I love that anyone can post photos. So come on Sea Gypsies, get posting, you can download www.googleearth.com for free.
Of course there had to be something about Google Earth & Wikipedia I don't like, the misinformation! I've warned my children a million times to go to reference books and not just the internet for info when researching.

The Kampong on Sibu is called Duku (not Lamas) at least it is by the people that live there (before I get bombarded with emails telling me I'm wrong). I also updated and changed the info about Sibu some time ago but see it has all been changed and down graded as far as I'm concerned. Ah well....

Saving the Dugong (if you don't know what a Dugong is click here)
Mid April a group of scientists & volunteers from the University of Malaysia, sponsored by Titan Chemicals came to Pulau Sibu to survey and catalogue the sea grass. This is part of a project that is also tracking and tagging the Dugong population in the area. We were thrilled to be able to host the group of enthusiastic ecologists. They did sight a female Dugong with pup on day three and then again on day four, but no photos unfortunately. Diving all day & cataloguing half the night these people are to be congratulated for their dedication. Meanwhile Dan's Nasty Frogmen have turned into keen Dugong spotters!
Lots of loading & unloading.... ....to a very nice dive boat... ...lots of specimens...

....a great deal of tank filling... ....yummy sea grass.... ....& our Kid's Club laboratory!
Easter
What a lovely crowd we had staying over Easter and in fact the whole of the April school hols. From Australia to the UK, from Shanghai to Hong Kong. Thank goodness i had some lovely gap year students from the UK, Alex & Fergus, to help me lay the Easter orienteering trail for the older children's treasure hunt. Richard had fun organising the tots Easter hunt, while Jade became the photographer.
The boys find their first clue... ...into the jungle... .... through another resort...
...and found the treasure Now for the girls.... ...which way next?
Can you spot Henry helping out? Richard starts the tots hunt Easter goodies for everyone
Hidden Talents
Who would have thought that our very British Marketing Manager (yes he's been promoted from Dive Base Leader and become a city boy) Samuel, would have such a brilliant hidden talent - Fire Poi! One of our guests captured one of his amazing displays on film. Don't worry we still make him put on a show every time he comes to the Island.
Linda's World Trip
In 2006, for the first time in 14 years, I went away during the season and spent six weeks on a trip round the world. I kept a blog for Richard & Jade which you're welcome to peruse should you feel so inclined www.lindawills.blogspot.com . The eagle eyed amongst you will notice our sate safari nutter cooks a mean joint of beef! You will also become well aware that I'm completely obsessed with food!!
"Low Season" - 15% Discount on our Chalet Rates!
Every year we sit around trying to come up with special offers for our quieter periods. Having fallen off my chair with a heart attack over the difference in price for a hotel in Perth in August and then in January, with the explanation January is "high season", I decided we could have our own high & low seasons.
We've chosen the beginning and the end of the year in order to combat the deluge of FALSE information that insists November & February the weather is horrendous. Keep watching our rates page for the exact dates.

The Fabulous Magnets (i know this is old now but i can't bear to take it off, we had such fun!)

When this happy band of chaps arrived at Sea Gypsy in August 05 none of our guests or staff realised what a wonderful time we were in for entertainmentwise. Apart from the fact they are some of the jolliest bunch you could ever be stuck on a small island with (although watch out for the hangovers!) The Magnets, an a cappella group from the UK, kindly entertained us with 2 evenings of song and even (by popular demand) managed a farewell tune whilst donning life vests for the journey back to reality, i.e. the mainland.  The guests present were all astounded by their versatility and converted to a cappella to a man!

The Dave Gunner Sate Safari #3 - POSTPONED
Would you believe there are some people on this earth crazy enough to fly half way around the world for some Sate - TWICE??? Well at least one exists. His name is Dave Gunner and he lives in the UK. Dave does work for Virgin Airlines which makes the cost of a return ticket to Malaysia a little easier on the pocket but nonetheless I personally think he's insane.  Last time he brought our old friend (and the chap that introduced us) Mick McGinn with him. The eagle eyed amongst you that have read every word of this web site (??!) will know that Mr. McGinn is also one of the original founders of Dan's Nasty Frogmen . Have just been informed by Mr. Gunner that Sate Safari #3 (2007) has not been cancelled but postponed till 2009 - the man is definitely insane and completely obsessed with our peanut sauce!!

This sate orgy was the highlight of the first Sate Safari

I forgot to mention he also loves ice cream,
much to my son's delight!
